What It's Like To Donate a Kidney

My name is Kevin Chintaman. Some of you know me from the autobody shop I run with my dad, or maybe from Church where I’m a youth leader. But what you may not know is that for the last two years I’ve been very sick and I’m in urgent need of a kidney transplant.
For most of my life I have had no health problems, but in 2022 I was diagnosed with diabetes, which runs in my family. What I was never told is that the diabetes was also destroying my kidneys. About a year later I was rushed to the hospital and my life was completely turned upside-down. Now, to stay alive, I have to do dialysis for ten hours every day.
Being on dialysis is grueling. You constantly feel sick, in pain, and you’re literally tied to a machine for almost half the day, just trying to make it to the next. You can't work as much; you feel isolated, and for me the dream of one day finding love and having children seems more distant than ever.
But I’m not one to give up. I believe that God put me here to serve others, and I’m determined to continue. Since I was diagnosed with diabetes I’ve lost over a hundred pounds; I’m eating healthy, and my support team, foremost my best friend and brother, have been there for me.
I want so much more out of life. I want a family; I want to continue to mentor our youth, travel, and share the lessons this experience has given me to somehow make the world a better place. But I can’t do this alone.
The gift of life from a living donor would renew my body, my soul; and it would save my life.
I know donating a kidney is no small ask. You can help me by sharing this video. Thank you.
I would be grateful if you shared this page.
