Hi. My name is Vera Davis. I’m a widow, a caregiver to my 98-year-old mom, and right now, I’m scared. I’m in kidney failure — and by the time you see this, I may already be on dialysis. I’m making this video with the hope that it reaches someone who might be willing and able to help. Because I’m in urgent need of a kidney transplant.
When I was 19, I was diagnosed with lupus — an autoimmune disease, I was in pain, I felt sick all the time, I spent weeks in the hospital, and even my boyfriend at the time left me as soon as I was diagnosed. My whole world was falling apart.
But I was lucky to have amazing parents who believed in me — especially my dad. He always reminded me that I was more than my illness. And I wanted to prove him right. I went to law school, passed the bar, and became a lawyer. I married a wonderful man, my late husband, Tom, who truly loved and supported me. And we built a really meaningful life.
I’ve been a strong advocate for people with disabilities and those living with lupus — raising money and educating policymakers on Capitol Hill.
It’s been 25 years since my last major lupus attack. But the disease has slowly and quietly destroyed my kidneys. I’ve eaten well, exercised, and done everything possible to delay the inevitable.
A transplant from a living donor would allow me to care for my mom, continue advocating for others, and feel normal again.
After suddenly losing my husband to cancer, I met someone who’s brought love back into my heart. He wanted to donate, but is not medically eligible.
So I’m looking for someone who might consider donating to save my life. You can help me by sharing this video. Thank you — from the bottom of my heart.
I would be grateful if you shared this page.
