What It's Like To Donate a Kidney

Learn more about living donation here

Hi, my name is Taylor Crandell, and I am currently looking for a living kidney donor.
At the start of 2025, I got the flu, which led to severe dehydration. That, combined with previously unknown kidney damage from childhood, sent me into kidney failure.
Right now, I complete home hemodialysis four times a week to stay healthy. I also follow a low phosphorus and low sodium diet to keep my levels stable between treatments.
Receiving a transplant from a living donor would be life-changing for me. One of the benefits of a living donor transplant is that it can be scheduled around both my schedule and the donor’s. More importantly, it would give me back freedom—freedom with my diet and my daily life. My days wouldn’t revolve around whether or not I need to complete a treatment.
A transplant would also allow me to begin my career as a high school English teacher much closer to 100% and truly show up for my students the way I want to.
Even if donation isn’t something you can do, sharing my story could help me find a donor—and that means everything.

I would be grateful if you shared this page.
