My name is Lara Day. I’m a young 58-year-old. For most of my life I have worked behind the scenes as an assistant to creators and entertainers. Behind the scenes because I've never been comfortable being the center of attention. However, now I find myself in front of the camera because I'm sick and in urgent need of a kidney transplant.

I was born with a birth defect that required two major surgeries before I was 2, which unfortunately left me with a kidney disease called FSGS. While I've always had symptoms, it went undiagnosed until I was in my forties.

Even with those symptoms, I've lived a very privileged life. I grew up in an Air Force family which taught me the importance of kindness, collaboration, and giving back. I received a great education, ultimately earning a Master's Degree in Urban and Environmental planning, and I've had the opportunity to travel to magical places and have developed a passion for volunteerism, including for animals. I've rescued three adorable kitties.

Unfortunately, my condition is irreversible. For the last decade I’ve been monitored by doctors and have done everything I can to delay the inevitable, through medication and a healthy lifestyle. I swim, eat healthy, but now every day has become a struggle. I'm constantly fatigued and I'm on the verge of needing dialysis.

The average life expectancy of people on dialysis is only about four to five years, and it comes with a list of debilitating side effects which will make working and having a quality life incredibly challenging. The only way to avoid this is for me to get a kidney transplant, but the wait for a deceased donor in my area is six to 10 years. And most people don't survive that long on dialysis.

A living kidney donor would not only safely save my life, but it would allow me to continue working and continue my passion for giving back. It's a gift I would forever treasure.
