What It's Like To Donate a Kidney

Watch

Learn more about living donation here

I was born and raised in Vancouver BC and have lived there all my life. I am a widower; my lovely wife Sharon passed away from breast cancer in 2015. I worked as a chartered accountant for 30 years and retired in 2020. I now enjoy an active life in Vancouver.

I have been diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease and am preparing for dialysis. My general health is good, and I have been able to continue with normal activities. However, I have been told this could change at any time, so the search for a kidney donor is urgent. A live donor transplant would extend my life, provide me with additional time with friends and family, and allow me to play with and care for my grandchildren as they grow up.

My blood type is O. Unfortunately, my immediate family members are incompatible. They are pursuing paired exchange programs (where they donate to another person in exchange for a matched kidney for me), but a paired match may not be found.

I am working with the Living Donor Program at Vancouver General Hospital (the “click here” link on this page links to their webpage and provide contact info for Vancouver General Hospital). If you do reach out, please mention my legal name and date of Birth - Kenneth Sanders. April 10, 1955.

To help me find a match, please share my story!
