Hi. My name is Joseph Griffin. I’m a devoted husband, a proud father, and a passionate advocate for vulnerable children because I believe we all need support at times. Today, I find myself reaching out for help in a way I never imagined—I am in urgent need of a kidney transplant.
In 2018, I suffered a mild heart attack. It was during that hospital visit that I learned my kidneys were failing. I’m a diabetic from a family with a history of high blood pressure. At the time I was juggling three jobs, commuting long hours, and striving to provide for my family. My health was suffering under the pressure of trying to give my children a better childhood than I had.
Growing up in the inner city during the crack epidemic, my parents struggled with addiction, and my siblings and I were placed in the child welfare system. But then my aunt stepped in and showed me love, faith, and the possibility of a brighter future.
Since then, I earned a graduate degree, married my soulmate, and have raised two incredible sons. And have devoted myself to uplifting at-risk youth because I know what it means to feel lost.
In a sense, I feel lost again. I’ve had to do dialysis three times a week to stay alive. Despite that, I have embraced a healthier lifestyle, lost over 50 pounds, and have benefited from the love of my wife and children.
I want to be an active husband and father, and continue working in our community. The gift of life from a living donor would allow me to do this and save my life.
I understand donating a kidney is a big ask. You can help me by sharing my story. Thank you.
I would be grateful if you shared this page.
