Hi. My name is Shamarya Johnson. Making this webpage is something I never guessed I would have to do. Up until recently I was that person who was always laughing, going to brunch with friends — who more than anything, was excited to be pregnant with my first child. Now I’m fighting for my life and in urgent need of a kidney transplant.

Like many people, I have long taken medication for high blood pressure. What I didn’t know was the condition was slowly causing my kidneys to fail. With the added strain of pregnancy, I soon found myself in the hospital. I underwent an emergency c-section, and in a matter of weeks my life turned upside down as my son and I battled for our lives. I was faced with the reality of being on dialysis and pushing my baby to fight even when I didn’t have the fight in me.

My baby didn’t survive and to be honest, life has been very challenging. But I’m here to tell you I’ve got the fight back in me. I’m feeling calm and focused; I’m eating healthy foods; and I’ve allowed my support team — foremost my mother and grandmother — to be there for me.

The gift of a life from a living kidney donor would not only save my life, but allow me to live without constantly feeling sick. I’m only 30, and if given the opportunity to be free of dialysis I want to go back to school. The amazing support I receive from the hospital after the birth of my late son inspired me to study to be a Labor and Delivery nurse.

I know that donating a kidney is no small ask, but it would give me another chance at life. I would be so grateful if you shared my story. Thank you.
