What It's Like To Donate a Kidney

Learn more about living donation here

Hi, my name is Laurel Lemke, and I am in need of a kidney transplant.

About ten years ago, I learned I had kidney disease. For years, I managed it through diet and medical care, but today I rely on dialysis three times a week to stay alive. While dialysis keeps me going, it’s physically exhausting and makes it harder to do the things I love like traveling, dancing, and being fully present in my work and community.

I’m doing everything I can to take care of myself by following my medical team’s guidance, attending dialysis treatments, and staying active and engaged while I wait for a transplant.

A kidney from a living donor would give me the chance to regain my energy and get back to the life I love. While I’m on the transplant list, the wait for a deceased donor kidney can take years, and a living donor could make all the difference.

If donating isn’t something you can do, sharing my story could help connect me with someone who can. Thank you for taking the time to read, share, and support me on this journey. 💛

I would be grateful if you shared this page.
